Earth has got fever !

The climate centres around the world, which are the equivalent of the pathology lab of a hospital, long ago have reported that Earth's physical condition and its climate are seriously deteriotating.

Its temperature is rising and Earth is about to pass into

a morbid fever that may last as long as 100,000 years,

James Lavelock, one of the most prominent and world famous planetary scientist keeps on warning us!

Indeed! We do not need too much scientific evidence to realise that something has gone wrong with the weather in November 2006! We can still use our own senses and past experience, just to realise that it has not rained in Athens since more than 2 weeks. The last month was mild, not too cold with an average temperature around 15 C. But the most astonishing was that it didn't rain since about 13-14/11/2006. All the last days we enjoyed a sunny and mild weather.

For the those that are always skeptical about everyting and need data to admit a point:



1. According to KNMI this AUTUMN was the warmest in Norht-West Europe for at least the last 3 centuries!. In Holand the average normal temperature is 10,2 C. This autumn the average temperature was 13,6 C thus 3,4 C above average. Only in November 2006 the average monthly temperature of 9,2 C was the highest since 1901 for this month!

2. In the UK it is estimated that Autumn 2006 was the warmest in the last 356 years!



3. Alpes had also the highest temperature in the last couple og centuries. This lead to Alpine sports events in Austria, Czech Republic, France, Slovakia and Switzerland being cancelled.

Now some would still insist that we should not worry too much, because these may be exceptional events (peaks) in a cycle of above and bellow average, weather movements. However, this is not so!

There has been a clear pattern or fast progression to highest average temperatures. For example only the last 16 years (since 1990) we had the astonishing number of 10 peak temperature-years!

In fact it was not only until the end of this year, we realised that 2005 was not the warmest in history actually bitten by year 2006!

Do you still not see the pattern here?

The climate in Athens have changed completely the last 100 years! Data analyis provided by the National Observatory of Athens demonstrates that the average temperature increase during the previous century was between 0,5 - 2 C (depending on season).

Temperature increase is higher during summer period. In Athens, we have had more droughts (temperature higher than 37 C) each one of current century's summer than we 've had within a whole decade of the previous century! On the other hand, occurences of glaciers (temperature less than 0 C) have been diminising. In fact, between 1993 to 1999 there was no glacier in Athens!

So the situation is heating up!

According to James Lavelock, the global complex Earth System (Gaia) is like a patient who has fever! As soon as temperatures rise 8C in temperate regions and 5C in the tropics, Gaia become like a person in a comma! Most of the land areas in the planet will become inhabitable, glaciers will melt and the only confortable place will be in the Arctic!

Can we afford to close our eyes and continue doing business as usual?
